Where Are You Little Star?

Where Are You Little Star?

In response to Mr. Baumgarten's letter in the September issue of Miami Monthly: There has been a Planning Board meeting, two commission hearings, and a Village Council meeting presenting the Home Depot issue and not one resident has come out to any meeting to support Home Depot. Not One!

The Grove First, on the other hand, has brought out throngs of people to every meeting – standing room only – begging to speak against a Home Depot. I am curious as to why Mr. Baumgarten chooses to not attend a public forum, but rather continually writes about how a big orange box would not impact the quality of life and traffic congestion of the Village of Coconut Grove. Perhaps he is "holed up" in his home in North Grove and never leaves it and that would explain why he thinks our traffic would not be seriously impacted by 6,000 extra cars a day.

One day while standing out in front of Milam's helping to get 13,000 petitions signed, I did meet a rare individual – a man who thought Home Depot might be a good idea. He suggested to me that if Home Depot does, in fact, come to Coconut Grove a plaque should be placed on the wall listing everyone who was opposed to it and banning them for the store. I suggested to him that the plaque be large enough to hold l8,000 names.
