E-mail from Tomas Regalado March 28,2005

Dear Ms. Dones,

Thank you for your e-mail. I did what I said I was going to do, vote for the residents. I just think it was a mistake to take the pressure off of Home Depot. I think my colleagues still don’t understand that the problems that Home Depot store creates are not solved with design and landscaping. It is about the kind of store they operate.

At Thursday’s meeting, all the Home Depot people talked about was design, beauty, and trees. Those, I think, are not the main issues. The issues are extended hours, early costumers trying to buy materials for the daily construction work, pick up trucks cutting through residential streets, garbage, and other issues. I just hope that the impact on the neighborhood is also discussed during those meetings that will take place.

I am sorry that the residents lost this round, I am hopeful that the Grove will continue the fight because it could be a model for future cases like this in other areas of the city and the county.

Best regards,

Tomas Regalado
