Replacing Kmart
Re the recent letters on the proposed
Home Depot in Coconut Grove: I, too,
want a business to take over the Kmart
space in Coconut Grove, but not a Home
Depot-type of store.
Already Home Depot has the leases for
the rest of the stores in that shopping
center, and when the Milam's Market
lease is finished, so is our only
grocery store. Is that worth a Home
Depot?
Who would want to live next to 1,000
pounds of fertilizer, herbicide and
insecticide, which if caught on fire
would cause the evacuation of residents
near the proposed site? Storage of these
types of materials is not proper for
high-density residential neighborhoods.
And having all of that material so close
to Biscayne Bay is not a good idea from
an environmental perspective.
