Pancoast Memorial

Re Glenn Terry's Nov. 20 column, Giving thanks for our unique Grove community: The surviving members of Lester C. Pancoast's family would like it known that we feel grateful that architect Max Strang has thought to honor Lester by dedicating the park portion of the upcoming Home Depot project in Coconut Grove to his memory.

Lester would have applauded any additional park areas in Coconut Grove, but as a landscape architect, he was extremely particular about the design, location and planting of any green space that was to be connected with his name.

We must decline Strang's offer at this time, and we notified him of our wishes formally on Nov. 19. Strang accepted the decision gracefully, knowing that we appreciated his gesture.
