Contrary to some,
Home Depot fight has not been lost
In last Sunday's article regarding
the Mango Strut parade [Strutting
their stuff, Jan. 1], it was
stated that the Home Depot fight in
Coconut Grove was lost.
We have not lost yet.
We may have lost politically, but in
no way has it been lost legally. A Home
Depot is a C-2 industrial warehouse and
has no right to go into a C-1 light
commercial zoning.
Until you see a big orange box on the
former Kmart site, we have not lost.
The Grove First has expended
countless hours on an awareness campaign
and the campaign depends on continuing
volunteer hours and contributions from
residents. If residents believe that the
fight is over, then we will lose.
This fight is for all the marbles.
All of Miami must know that the fight is
not over.
