HARTFORD -- The state of Connecticut has
struck an environmental deal with Home
Depot.
Home Depot is making big changes thanks
to a settlement with the state. They
will now take better care with hazardous
materials like fertilizer and pool
chemicals to keep them from being
accidentally released.
"They have gone so far as to contact the
manufacturers so they develop stronger
bags that are less likely to break."
said DEP Commissioner Gina McCarthy.
In an announcement today, the state DEP
says the home improvement chain will
also pay a $425,000 fine and in addition
to changing procedures at 13 Connecticut
stores and they're implementing the
program at all Home Depot's nationwide.
The problems at Home Depot were
discovered through a routine inspection,
but the DEP hopes other stores will take
action now.
